54 Folded Paper Cranes

For many years, I have photographed the landscape, playing with the form of the image and the controls of the camera to disrupt and also connect to the veracity of the photographic image. At the same time, I have quietly developed and stumbled over signs and symbols of the written language. And while I prefer to use metaphor within the context of art, in language I dismiss and miss the abstraction in favor of clarity. Each word carries its distinct and most relevant definition. To muddy these waters with alliteration and simile serves only to confuse me.  Inside the studio, inside the house, I found safety in the habitual practice of folding paper and pressing at the walls physically with my body. These images are evidence of this study and activity.
